Philipp Kohlschreiber, the 2011 Halle winner, upset two-time Cincinnati titlist Andy Roddick 6-7, 7-5, 6-1 on Center Court.

Roddick, who’s been battling injury this year, said about the loss, "I was just disappointed. Equal parts mad and also disappointed in myself. My team also, we’ve been trying to get back…It’s essentially a long uphill battle."

At the same time, the former World No. 1 found some positives in his play. "For two sets tonight, I hit the ball a lot better than I thought I would, if I’m being totally candid." He continued, "I probably will wake up tomorrow morning feeling a little better about where I’m at than I did when I woke up this morning."

Kohlschreiber said of the win, "Sometimes in the matches you win the big points, and I think I did it…starting from the second set." He continued, "I think that made maybe the difference."

In other night matches, former World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic defeated American Alexa Glatch 6-0, 6-2.  The Serbian, who reached the Cincinnati semifinals last year, looks forward to doing well again this year. "I really enjoy being here and competing," she said.

Ryan Harrison, a semifinalist in the Olympus US Open Series stop in Atlanta and Los Angeles earlier this summer, won his opening round match against six-time Tour titlist Juan Ignacio Chela. The American will next face recent Toronto champion Novak Djokovic, who’s lost just one match this year, in the second round.

Daniela Hantuchova, who reached the ’09 Cincinnati quarterfinals, defeated 2011 Bogota champion Lourdes Dominguez Lino on Court Three.
