Black and Huber Win Doubles Title

MASON – The World No. 1 doubles team of Cara Black and Liezel Huber claimed the 2009 Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open title with a 6-3 0-6 10-2 win over the No. 3 team of Nuria Llagostera Vives and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.

Black and Huber raced out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set and held on to take a lead in the match.

Llagostera Vives and Martinez Sanchez dominated the second set, winning 24 of the 38 points and claiming the set 6-0.

Momentum swung the other way quickly in the match tie-break, as the Spanish duo took the first point, but Black and Huber rattle off nine straight points before cloing out the match 10-2.

This is the fifth title of the year for Black and Huber. They move to 5-0 in finals with the win on Sunday.

The title is the 27th for the Black and Huber as a team. Black, who was appearing in her 87th career doubles final, owns 51 titles, while this was the 39th for Huber.

The Spanish team was making its sixth finals appearance of the year and was looking to claim a fifth title on the season.
