August 13, 2008 07:30 AM

Americans Madison Brengle and Kristy Frilling continued their fine run of form by reaching the semifinals at the Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open with a battling 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 victory over Tathiana Garbin and Mashona Washington on Wednesday.

The 18-year-olds Brengle and Frilling are playing together for the first time this season on the WTA Tour, however they did capture a satellite event in Indian Harbour Beach together in May (d. Kops-Jones/Spears). They go on to face either top seeds Hsieh/Shvedova or Ditty/Grandin for a place in the final.

In the first round, Ukrainian/Turkish partnership Olga Savchuk and Ipek Senoglu knocked out Maria Kondratieva of Russia and Sophie Lefevre of France 6-3, 6-4 to set up a second round meeting with third seeds Jasmin Woehr of Germany and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic.
