Three seeded players will play their first round matches, Monday at the 2008 Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open.

Russian Maria Kirilenko, the No. 3 seed, is the highest seeded player in action Monday and plays qualifier Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei in the headline match of the evening session. The 21-year-old Kirilenko is currently ranked No. 22 and has a 24-14 season match record, highlighted by titles at Estoril and Barcelona. She made her only previous event appearance four years ago in a first round loss to Marion Bartoli.

Fourth seed Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia also returns to Cincinnati for the second time and opens against American Amanda Fink. Srebotnik reached the Cincinnati final in 2006, posting upsets over No. 6 seed Bartoil in the quarterfinals and top seed Patty Schnyder in the semifinals before losing to Vera Zvonareva.

Austraian teenager Tamira Paszek, the No. 8 seed, makes her Cincinnati debut against Czech Petra Cetkovska. Paszek's best results this season have come on hard courts, reaching the semifinals at Auckland (l. to Davenport) and quarterfinals at Montreal (l. to Azarenka). In Montreal, she upset World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic in a three-set quarterfinal.
