Americans Vince Spadea and Amer Delic both advanced to the main draw of the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters after winning their final-round qualifying matches Sunday.
Spadea survived one set point in the second set tie-break to defeat Romanian veteran Andrei Pavel 7-6(6), 7-6(7). Delic produced an awesome performance on serve to upset Russian Davis Cup hero Igor Andreev 6-4, 7-6(4). Delic did not face a break point and dropped just four points on his first serve.
Emerging Argentine talent Juan Martin del Potro served 10 aces and saved both break points he faced in a 7-5, 6-3 win over Latvia's Ernests Gulbis. Frenchman Julien Benneteau caught a lucky break when former Tennis Masters Cup finalist Sebastien Grosjean retired soon after winning the first set.
Left-handed Spaniard Felicano Lopez, who recently reached the Stuttgart semifinals, won his way into the main draw after defeating Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili.
