Tim Henman Awarded First of Four Wild Cards

MASON – July 26, 2007 – Former top-five player Tim Henman has been granted the first of four main draw wild cards into the 2007 Western & Southern Financial Group Masters, the tournament announced today. He will join the world’s Top 44 players in the 56-man field at the $2.45 million ATP Masters event.

This year will mark Henman’s first as a wild card entrant in Cincinnati where he has amassed a 16-11 singles record in 11 appearances. In 2000, he became the first player from Great Britain since Mark Cox in 1977 to reach the Cincinnati final. He lost that final to Thomas Enqvist, but returned the next year and reached the semifinals.

“With his style of play, his demeanor and his outstanding results, Tim has become very popular with the fans in Cincinnati,” said tournament director Bruce Flory.

In his 14-year career on the ATP circuit, Henman has won 11 singles titles, the biggest coming at the ATP Masters event in Paris in 2003. He’s also reached 17 singles finals, including at AMS Indian Wells in 2002 and 2004. A four-time semifinalist and four-time quarterfinalist at Wimbledon, Henman also reached the semifinals in 2004 at both the U.S. Open and the French Open. He climbed to a career-high No. 4 ranking in 2002.

The three other wild cards will be granted prior to the draw ceremony on Friday, August 10, and the remainder of the main draw will be filled by seven qualifiers, and one special exempt entry (if needed).

The main draw begins on Monday, August 13, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio (located just north of downtown Cincinnati).
